TREND ALERT: Fall Florals
Don’t kiss goodbye your summer florals quite yet. Instead, embrace the vibrant colors and turn grey fall days into energy with layered floral patterns. Chanel put together the perfect transitional look by pairing a floral two-piece set with a long-sleeve shirt. This combination helps keep you warm during the crisp autumn days while still rocking warm weather vibes. Embrace the cooler season and invest in a long-sleeve maxi dress decked out in floral embroidery. Valentino featured quite a few maxi dresses this season, each holding true to the floral trend. Try floral patterning mix-and-matching similar to what Zimmerman presented in their fall collection. With a sheer/nude colored top covered in burgundy flowers, paired with a burgundy skirt with pink and taupe flowers, this unique combination works because of the similar color palette. Where will you rock fall florals this season?
Autumn 2018 - Ready to Wear
Fall Florals - By: Gretchen Asuncion
Farewell, Summer! Hello, Fall! But wait…before you overhaul and trade your summer wardrobe for fall, there is a key trend you need to keep. Can you guess what that is? Florals, florals, FLORALS!
I know you may be thinking, “That’s only for spring and summer.” Or maybe you’re not a fan and only picture it on your grandmother’s sofa. Well, let’s take it to the runway. Floral was blooming all over during fashion week from designers Gucci, Valentino, and Christian Dior, just to name a few. I have scrolled through Pinterest and Instagram only to notice that floral is everywhere and in every season. Be it large blooms like a peony or as small as baby’s breath, floral is here to stay to give a sense of warmth during our cool autumn nights. It is not only a great transitional print but it has become timeless, especially through all the seasons Minnesota offers.
Floral will help soften and give a feminine touch to the masculine and dark moods that are also trending this fall. I guess you could say that we are channeling our inner ‘60s and ‘70s selves. Think of Twiggy, Jackie O., or even David Bowie - floral was iconic. What I love about floral is the options that are available when styling. You have the ability to go bold and dress in floral from head to toe, but it’s the layering aspect that keeps floral trending. By pairing masculine and feminine pieces together, you will definitely turn heads.
I have been on the search for a floral print that was not too loud. Thankfully, I was able to find this button down floral maxi that has been my favorite dress to date. The versatility of having it unbuttoned over a turtleneck and jeans, allows me to wear it on the streets for an afternoon stroll. The flip side is to wear it buttoned up, paired with over-the-knee boots, and a moto jacket that will keep the romance alive during date night. To brighten up the mood for Sunday brunch, we can take a mixed floral babydoll dress, pull on a sweater, and add some tights and boots. It’s prints like these that allow me to have fun and pair with basics found in my own wardrobe.
Since floral has been around throughout the decades, you could easily find an assortment at your local thrift store. This will bring character and allow your own creativity to modernize the trend. Who knows, maybe your grandmother will let you upscale her sofa to an iconic floral look for Fall 2018. But I think your grandmother would rather keep her sofa intact. However, take a chance and rock it the way that makes you feel confident about yourself. If you’ve been hesitant about styling with trends, you owe it to yourself to blossom your look with floral.
