Winter Launch 2018/19 Magazine

My mom and I going to my first fashion show, the very first FASHIONOPOLIS in MN!

My mom and I going to my first fashion show, the very first FASHIONOPOLIS in MN!

I was introduced to the fashion industry when I was 17, and I immediately fell in love with the gorgeous creations and the “fabulous-looking” people. I worked multiple jobs in order to pay for tickets to go to fashion week and meet as many people in the industry as I could. It was a fast-paced world where everyone and everything shined, and I wanted to be part of it.

Fast forward 6 years and I still love the creation and art form of fashion; however, I have seen a lot of inauthenticity throughout the industry. Upon this discovery my hear broke. I spent 2018 rediscovering myself and the purpose of The Volk. After taking time to think, grow, and move forward, I’ve made it my mission to be authentically true to myself on all social media platforms as well as through the brand of The Volk. There are far too many fake identities on social media, showcasing people for who they aren’t; I for one will not be that way anymore. I do not want to be anyone’s role model, nor am I aiming to become an “influencer.”  However, I do want to be an influence on people’s lives:  not for you to aspire to be me, but for you to aspire to be YOU! I want you to be the best possible version of yourself that you can be.

Not only have I grown in my personal life, but my team has grown tremendously within one year. With the growth of the team, we have been able to expand our resources to help us curate the most beneficial content within each section of the magazine. With this being said, you can expect a lot of new content coming your way as well as a new vibe throughout the brand: staying true to our mission of loving all things beautiful.   We will not be featuring just material things like fashion and makeup, but also beautiful souls and inspiring stories.

In this issue you will find more Minnesota brands, bringing our vision of community to life! From cozy oversized knits to vibrant pops of animal print and the color red, you are certain to find something you’ll love. Be sure to check out our gift guides to help you give the best gifts this winter while supporting small businesses that are truly making a difference throughout our community. Get to know Minnesota’s style expert, Sara Rogers, and meet Minnesota’s teacher of the year, Kelly Holstine, learning how she is changing the lives of her students every single day. As always, you will find the hottest trends of the season as well as a style guide on how to style wardrobe essentials this winter. With beauty, fashion, and so much more, this issue is perfect for keeping you inspired all winter long.

In 2019 let’s forget about the superficial “New Year’s Resolutions,” such as going to the gym every day or gaining x amount of followers on social media. Forget about “becoming prettier” or impressing someone. Just focus on your here and now. Focus on making sure you’re doing your absolute best with everything you do. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Whether it be trying one of the latest fashion trends, purchasing an ethical piece of clothing, or spending time exploring and getting to know your community, go out and do it!  Meet new people, hear their stories, and learn from everyone you meet. But all in all, stop trying to be someone you’re not. If you want to make a difference, you need to be different. In today’s society, kindness and authenticity are extremely unique. So why not give that a shot?
