The Beauty Issue Launch

I would be lying if I said putting this issue together was super easy. It definitely wasn’t. Maybe it was because we had an April snowstorm that kept me stuck inside for longer than I would have liked. Or maybe it was because I procrastinated on things that I should have done a while back causing me to rush around like a chicken with its head cut off. Regardless, I am extremely happy and proud to finally send this magazine to print.
This is our first “Beauty Issue,” as well as our two-year magazine release anniversary! While most would associate beauty with make-up and hair trends, my team and I took a different approach. We focused on showcasing diversity by exploring a few of the different cultures we have in the beautiful state of Minnesota. This five-part editorial is a project I have been working on for quite a few years to ensure I curated a beautiful representation of people, cultures, and, most importantly, diversity. When I met photographer KC Filzen I knew almost immediately that she was the perfect visionary to partner with for this project. With KC behind the camera, Mark Navarro directing hair and makeup, and Michaela Rae and myself directing the story, this project came to life in a way that I believe will speak to many.
Not only did we cover natural beauty, we also covered local businesses that make beauty products:  for instance, the all-natural hair products produced by Lis’n and the luxurious products at Daphne’s Dollhouse. You will also notice a bit of a women empowerment theme throughout the magazine, supporting women of all walks. With our cover girl, Daphne Jalteco, a fellow female entrepreneur and a first-generation college student from her Mexican-American family, you will see how ambition and hard work can make any dream a reality. Along with women empowerment, diversity, and all things beauty, we also dug into the deeper form of beauty:  namely, learning to love yourself from the inside out and starting to explore your own personal style. And, as always, we continue to cover the hottest fashion and beauty trends to wear and rock this summer season for both men and women.
It is important to understand that beauty comes in all shades, shapes, society rankings, and styles. Beauty is so much more than skin deep. Beauty starts within and flows into our smiles, our relationships, and the positive affirmations we send into the world.

Stay Beautifully Fierce,
~Meghanlee
