Activity: Girls Night In!
Remember back in the day when you and your high school besties would get together on a Friday night for a typical sleepover? This usually included junk food, dancing, and lip-syncing to whatever the latest hit was, watching some sappy chick flick, and spending the rest of the night gossiping about which boy is the cutest in your class. Now you’re out of high school, your friend group has probably changed, and your high school boyfriend isn’t even a thought in your mind anymore. Instead, you’re working hard creating a successful career and work-life balance for your life. Many of you are married and quite a few of you have children of your own that you are caring for. With adulthood being very time consuming and sometimes never-ending, it can be difficult to find time to relax, catch up with your friends, or even pamper yourself. This summer, I am challenging all of the ladies out there to take one evening (or night) off and host a fabulous Girls Night In event. Don’t worry, I have everything you will need to make this a night of relaxation, glamour and of course some girl-talk.
Location, location, location. When selecting a spot in your home to host a tranquil evening, the location is everything. To create an irresistibly relaxing mood, make sure you set up in an area with big open windows. Natural light is the best way to reduce stress, while boosting your vitamin D intake. Nix décor and focus on creating a cozy environment with plenty of floor pillows and throws. (If you happen to have any faux fur throws or rugs, definitely add them into the mix for an extra hint of glamour.) For a fun pop of sparkle, place fairy lights in a few mason jars or string them across a wall, bringing the stars inside. Host an alluring aroma by placing scented candles strategically throughout the area. Make sure all the candles you use for the evening are the same scent, for a variety of different smells can over stimulate your brain and cause headaches.
The key to happiness is learning to love yourself. Oh, and food. Lot’s and lots of food. For an evening of relaxation and rejuvenating yourselves, I encourage many to focus on providing detoxifying options. A chic and incredibly easy way to do this is making detoxifying water. All you need is water, a variety of different sliced up fruits and veggies and mint leaves. (Cucumbers, lemons, limes, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries etc.) Let each guest create their own detoxifying concoction, helping keep the evening personalized. Keep the hangries away by ensuring you have plenty of snack options. A few big bowls of fresh popcorn are essential. Make sure you place each bowl in easy to reach areas throughout the room, making it less work to grab a snack. They say, having food within arms reach is ideal for total relaxation. Add some vibrancy to your food selection with chips and an option of both salsa and guacamole. For healthier options, consider making your own batch from scratch, keeping the ingredients pure.
When planning for activities to do throughout the evening, keep things tranquil. You never want to force people to have fun, with corny themed games or activities that some of your friends may find boring or irrelevant. Curate the evening to keep everyone at peace of mind, and comfortable. Although a movie night may seem like the easy go-to, grow deeper relationships with your friends, by keeping the opportunity for conversation open. Get creative and host an adult coloring station, with intricate coloring pages, designed to help relax the mind. You can find a variety of different versions free to download straight from Pinterest, or head over to Barnes-&-Noble and check out their wide array of coloring books. Make sure you leave the kiddos crayon’s packed away and bring out some sophisticated markers, ideal for coloring detail. Add some glamour to the evening, by having everyone bring over their favorite skin care or makeup products and try them out giving honest reviews. Not only is this a classic girls night idea, but it provides each of you an opportunity to see and try new brands without spending the big bucks. Of course, as the evening unwinds, feel free to add a little romance with a classic rom-com and a glass of wine.
All in all this night is about you and your friends. Catching up with one another and giving all of you an opportunity to sit back, kick your feet up and not have to worry about a damn thing all night long! Now, call up the girls, and let’s relax in style.
