The Good, The Bad and Alexander

17 Questions with Fall cover guy, Alexander Denning

When you first glance at Alexander you will have one of two scenarios play in your head: one, you are put off by his large assortment of tattoos, or two, you see his body as a walking canvas and are instantly intrigued to know more.  The moment I saw him, I knew I had to get to know him.  Just as I assumed, his plethora of tattoos represent the story of his life; and man oh man, is it a story to tell!

Check out the Q&A I had with Alexander getting a taste of his style and life as a model! #Fall2018

The Volk: Besides modeling what would your dream job be?
Alexander: An actor for movies and film.  Eventually I’d like to be a professor of some-sort, either psychology or law.

The Volk: Is life as a model as glamorous as everyone thinks?
Alexander: It is not at all as glamorous as people think. There is a lot of waiting: sitting while getting your hair and makeup done, waiting for set-up, waiting during lighting adjustments, etc. As long as you have a good attitude about it, you can make the best out of it. It takes a lot of effort to make something beautiful come to life.

The Volk: What is your favorite thing about modeling?
Alexander: Being able to express yourself through photographs and the connections you make meeting new people.  I love to hear everyone’s stories.

The Volk: Do you have to focus on any specific diets, workouts, or beauty routines to keep up with your look?
Alexander: Yes, I focus a lot on my body. I work out 6 days a week while maintaining a Low-carb diet. As for my look, I focus on moisturizing my skin (no dried up fishes) and I take extremely good care of my hair.

The Volk: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Alexander: I’ll be an actor in some major film, or TV show. I’ll be working toward a career as a professor/attorney as well as owning my first home and building a family. Hopefully one day I will be on the Ellen Show (that won’t be in 5 years, but it is coming, I promise).

The Volk: What trend are you most excited to wear this fall season and where will you be seen rocking it?
Alexander: Trench coats.  I like wearing those and anything made out of wool. Both will be seen as I adventure through Chicago, New York, and Minnesota.

The Volk: How would you describe your personal style?
Alexander: Preppy college student with a hint of 1950’s Greaser.

The Volk: Do you have a style icon?  If so, who?
Alexander: James Dean, Elvis Presley, JFK, Johnny Depp.

The Volk: What is it about their style that you love?
Alexander: I love that they are able to mix professionalism with casual grunge. That is what I aspire to do with my everyday look.

The Volk: Are there any local designers or brands that you love?
Alexander: Rhey Apparel and Bold Maniere – love the streetwear vibes.

The Volk: Do you believe the way we dress affects the way we think?
Alexander: Absolutely. It affects the way we think and the way we feel. When you look good, you feel good. Confidence is important. As much as we don’t think people’s opinions of us don’t matter, their thoughts and opinions of them toward you affect the way we think and feel.

The Volk: What advice would you give to those aspiring to become models?
Alexander: Do it for the right reason.

The Volk: What are your suggestions or ideas for bringing the people within MN fashion industry together?
Alexander: Be more understanding and open to differing perspectives and most importantly learn to respect each other’s visions.

The Volk: What is the difference between living and existing?
Alexander: Living is acknowledging your potential in life and fulfilling that potential, while existing is just going about your day not fulfilling any goals or passions.

The Volk: Do you prefer darkness or light? Can both be beautiful?
Alexander: Half and half – absolutely both can beautiful because both can be teachable moments

The Volk: What is your favorite quote and explain why it resonates with you so much.
Alexander: “If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made of” -BruceLee
I enjoy this quote because I have learned that time is our most valuable asset and taking it for granted is a very common thing to do and I don’t want to do that. I want to live my life to the fullest every single day.
