Mental Health: Week 3 - Gratitude Challenge
Day 3: What kind of food or are you most grateful for, bringing you comfort?
Now this is a topic that I can get behind 100%! Other than fashion I think my other biggest passion is quality food. I thoroughly enjoy trying out new restaurants and tasting new types of food, from all across the globe. I have tried different foods ranging from lutefisk (it smells worse than it tastes) to hamburgers (they smell better than they taste), and I can honestly say, I’ve been able to enjoy the variety of options in one way or another.
However, today, we are going to talk about what kind of food I am most grateful for, also known as; comfort food. No matter the time, place or season, my go to type of food is Mexican food. Whether it is fajitas, tacos or chimichangas, I am certain to be satisfied with any type of Mexican food, especially if the meal is accompanied with re-fried beans and rice! (These sides are a necessity).
There isn’t really any sentimental reasoning as to why this type of food is my comfort food, for I did not grow up in a Mexican household, nor am I related to anyone who is Mexican. But I certainly appreciate their culture and thoroughly enjoy the food. Living in Minnesota, it isn’t hard to find Mexican restaurants, however, I have two favorites that I really want to talk about.
If you are looking for a restaurant where kids can be kids, head on over to El Loro, in Eagan. Not only are the servers extremely kind and understanding to the children, but they will treat them like family making your kids feel comfortable and relaxed. For any family dinners, we always head over there. Not only is their service great, but the food tastes authentically homemade. (This isn’t taco bell anymore). Also, the portion sizes are huge, meaning you will always have some to take home for the next day! I don’t know about you, but I love restaurants that I know I will have left overs to take home. Oh and I did mention, they have vegetarian options as well, making this a restaurant perfect for all. Don’t forget to eat as much of the chips and salsa, its phenomenal!
Third floor at the Mall of America, right out side of Macy’s, you will find this amazingly posh restaurant. Although it is on the more expensive side, trust me when I say it is worth every penny. They make fresh guacamole right at your table, and the alcoholic drinks don’t even taste alcoholic. (That can be very dangerous, so please drink slowly and let your body respond, before ordering more). This restaurant is ideal for date nights, adult get togethers or business meetings, keeping things elevated and modern, yet extremely tasteful.
At the end of the day, it is important to know your comfort food and and how to incorporate it into your life without being toxic to your lifestyle or body. While most associate comfort food as a desert or sugary treat, I encourage everyone to find a comfort food that is semi healthy, helping you with both emotional support and your physical help. Thank God for Mexican cuisine!
What is your comfort food?
