2019 is here and now is the time to take on a fresh look and introduce a new color idea for spring: Mustard Yellow. Yellow in general is the cheerleader of the color wheel, naturally making us happier and energized especially after the long winter. Spicing up for spring with mustard yellow is a great way to make a bold impression and stand out with lots of self-expression for all to see!

Mustard yellow has many happy, psychological benefits to add to your spring wardrobe, such as feeling luxurious, expressive and respectable. I like to imagine wearing a beautiful long, mustard wrap dress with bright, bold, blue accessories going to a red-carpet event feeling and looking absolutely stunning, standing arm and arm with my partner. But why wait for such a big event when you can have the same wonderful experience over fine dining too?

Personally, I think the best part of wearing mustard yellow is the fact that you can show off individuality and a desire to be unique. This is quite perfect for artists and naturally creative people who want to express their inner uniqueness to the world, subtly saying “Here I am, signed, sealed, and delivered” or better yet, “Can you see me now?”! The answer is Yes! Now let the fun begin as I share two different designers expressing their love for spicy mustard using multiple prints and patterns with a couple of looks to fit your personality!

Our first designer is Ana Anzaldo, owner of Ysabel Boutique. I spoke with Ana about her personal passion and choice for using the vibrant mustard color in her collection and Ana said,

“I love the color mustard yellow because it is a great way of adding energy into our wardrobe. There is something about this warm color that makes us feel confident, energized and sophisticated.”

Ana’s first style is a two-piece sweater dress in a golden mustard tone that gives a feeling of warmth and can be easily dressed up for a night out or worn casually for day out on the town. Add a pop to this look by adding a chic pair of white booties and feel free to throw on a bold color scarf as a head wrap. Complete the look with delicate silver earrings and Vogue glasses. Voila! Chic with a touch of class.

The second ensemble is a rich mustard and black crop top featuring an abstract animal pattern paired with a pair of mustard pants that subtly flair at the bottom. I love how this look expresses individuality on its own, but instantly makes a statement when accessorized with a Clint Eastwood hat saying “I AM BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL!”

Our second designer is Gabriella Kalema, owner of Gabriella Kalema Designs. Gabriella shared with me that when she designs she likes to add a little touch of herself in her pieces and she adds,

I love prints and patterns, but personally I am extremely drawn to neutral hues. So my everyday challenge as a designer is to step out of my comfort zone and embrace color.  I chose mustard color because it’s vibrant but subtle at the same time.  It is a color that enhances any aesthetic and I love the way it compliments most people despite their ethnicity.”

Here is a piece that truly shares Gabriella’s inner and outer beauty. A long, multi-color giraffe print coat with a variety of rich tones and bright mustards.

I think this coat is a great statement piece going into spring and is perfect for the creative individual who holds a uniquely confident flair. You can wear this long coat in a number of ways by adding a black skirt, a black blouse, and strappy heels to dress it up for a night on the town. Maybe keep things a little more casual by layering this jacket over your favorite pair of leggings, a classic tee, and crisp white sneakers. Grab a cute handbag and you will be all set for running errands in style.

In 2019, wearing mustard for spring with total confidence is a definite MUST! Whether you rock the color casually or create an elevated and sophisticated combination, you’re certain to make a statement in this vibrantly hot and spicy color.
