Mental Health: Week 2- Gratitude Challenge

What technology are you most grateful for?

Honestly, this week’s question is quite a challenge for me to answer. It isn’t so much that I despise technology, but simply the fact that technology has led so many (including myself) astray. With the constant temptation to compare ourselves to the “perfect” Instgramable lifestyles and people, social media (which is a form of technology) is an easy route to constant depression, and feeling like you’ll never be good enough. With that being said, this week’s gratitude challenge is quite a tricky one.

I have decided I am going to answer my question based off of facts from my phone. (ironic huh?) If I were to pull up on my phone which apps I spend the most time on, it would show you two strikingly obvious answers: Youtube and the Notes app. Why these two apps? Because I use these two apps the most when working on both myself, my family and of course my business. Let me break it down.

Electus is my absolute favorite artist (aside from Michael Jackson of course) Check him out you will NOT be disappointed!

YOUTUBE - On Youtube I find a lot of information, motivation and inspiration. Whether I am using Youtube to listen to motivational mixes or looking for more insight on a specific topic or idea, there is always plenty to take in and assess. I love that with the large assortment of videos and a variety of categories, the opportunity to learn and grow is absolutely endless. For instance, since I don’t have cable TV, I actually hear a lot of the News off of Youtube, keeping me informed, and providing me with endless “view points” on the same topic. I am grateful for this, because I feel a lot of the people I interact with, will hear one story from one point of view, and immediately take that version of the story as fact, completely missing many other facts and insights that other networks, or people have learned along the way. To limit yourself to one source or one group of sources that all view things the same way, for information is not only naive but absolutely frightening. Your not only limiting your own personal knowledge but your judgement will forever be skewed, and dictated by that ONE point of view. Trust me when I say, ignorance is not always bliss. As for a motivational stand point, I am obsessed with motivational mixes. They aren’t podcasts and they aren’t your average Ted Talks, they are typically speeches or clips of speeches put together to music. The one above is the one I listen to every single morning to help me get into the mindset of success and letting myself be open to any change and opportunities God has placed on my path.

NOTES- What I love most about my Notes app, is the fact that I can write literally ANYWHERE at ANYTIME and for me that is such an amazing tool. I wouldn’t ever call myself a writer, but I definitely enjoy writing. From dark poetry to fashion journalism, I enjoy being able to express how I feel and share my experience through words. I am slightly old-fashioned in the sense that I love hand-written letters, however, hand writing isn’t always an option, especially when you’re constantly on the go. That is when this little app comes in handy! I use this app to write down my goals, magazine layouts and editorial ideas as well as organizing myself with task lists and assignments. (Yes I give myself assignments. It helps keep me accountable). I love not having to search for a pen and paper, and just be able to write anything that comes to my mind right there on the spot! For anyone in the creative field, I’d be shocked if this wasn’t one of your most used apps as well!

I am grateful for both the Notes app and the infamous world of Youtube. These two forms of technology have not only catered to my needs, but have brought me both inspiration and education.

What technology are you most grateful for? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear your points of view!

Forever Grateful,
