And just like that, we are welcoming 2019.
Usually when it comes to a new year, everyone likes to discuss all of the changes they plan to make. However, this year, for 2019, I would like to do something different. Instead of looking at all of the things we aren’t satisfied with, let’s take this year, to express sincere gratitude and appreciation for the lives we are already living.
Now, you may be wondering, what is wrong with wanting to improve ourselves with New Year resolutions?
My answer: Nothing. Absolutely nothing is wrong with continuously working to better ourselves and improving the world around us.
But let’s take a look at the honest facts. Statistically, most people will start their New Year’s resolutions and within in two months give up or fall back into their old habits. (Old habits die hard, am I right?) A lot of the New Year’s resolutions people make are very “superficial” in the sense that they aren’t inspiring enough to change the mindset or lifestyle of oneself, just a hopeful wish of change.
So why do we continuously go into the New Year like our entire world’s about to change? Like the Axis is going to somehow shift in our favor giving us everything we ever wanted like a genie in a bottle? With that mindset, all we do is continuously set ourselves up for failure, disappointment and are repeatedly becoming unsatisfied.
With all of this in mind, I have decided to go into the New Year without a resolution but a conscious decision to change my heart and mindset. Instead of giving myself unrealistic goals or creating ideas that I’d “like” to do (but honestly won’t); I want to spend this year, learning to be grateful for everything that comes my way.
Maybe the word I am looking for is peace? I am going to strive to find peace in my life. This doesn’t mean cut off all relationship and social media ties, this doesn’t even mean changing my schedule in any way. All it requires is a conscious mind and an ever-changing open heart.
Instead of looking in the mirror every morning and night and picking out everything I want to change, I am going to look in the mirror and start to appreciate everything I have and the all the opportunities that have been put on my path. Instead of getting upset, when a friendship ends or a concept doesn’t come to life as planned, I am going to accept the result and take advantage of every learning opportunity, or lesson of growth. Instead of continuously comparing myself to influencers and other mothers, I am going to remind myself of all of the amazing things I am capable of and I am doing every single day for both my family and myself. Not only is this an amazing form of self-care, but the more you start to state things out loud, the more you will start to realize and actually believe that everything you are saying is 100% true.
Let me reiterate, I am not saying “don’t have goals” and “don’t continuously aspire to grow”.
I am simply saying now is the time to acknowledge and admire how far you have come and how amazing you truly are.
For instance, just three years ago I was completely lost. Living a life that I wasn’t proud of, spending time with people who didn’t motivate or inspire me and starting to take the first steps to create the concept and vision of The Volk. Fast forward three years later and I am now the wife of an incredibly supportive man, a mother of a princess and a boss babe business owner, working to continuously grow my brand and network. For the first time in my entire life I have connected with other bad-ass women (and a few supportive men), not only motivating me to go after everything I want, but building quality friendships as well, making this entrepreneur lifestyle seem a little less lonely. To me, that is a such a large amount of success and change within a few short years, and I know that I am not the only one who has conquered a lot in a short period of time.
Whether you graduated college, are taking the first steps in your career, started a family, traveling the world or took a risk by quitting your 9-5 to start your own business, that is all INCREDIBLE and deserves to be celebrated! Stop bringing yourself down by creating unrealistic New Year’s resolutions and start honoring all of your steps to your own personal success.
I believe if we all start to nurture our souls and our mindset, then we will start to see changes in the world around us. Therefore, I am claiming 2019 to be the year of gratitude.
Admit it, you’re pretty amazing! And if you don’t believe so, try the daily gratitude challenge (It will be my next blog post), hopefully you will start to see how amazing the life you are living truly is!
All in all, Happy New Year beautiful people! May this year be the year you give yourself the acknowledgment you so desperately deserve. You are beautiful, amazing and look how far you’ve come!
